WASHINGTON — One of the Republican Party’s most prominent health care thinkers doesn’t know what the GOP’s current health care strategy actually is.
Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Tuesday evening that the party’s previous health care focus — on technocratic strategies like increasing competition in drug markets or supporting private Medicare plans — have largely fallen off platforms and out of stump speeches.
“It would be hard for me to step back and articulate to you or anyone what the conservative philosophy is generally on health care reforms,” Gottlieb, a current board member at Pfizer and a senior fellow at the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute, said Tuesday at a STAT event here.
