STAT+: NEJM aims to hold AI to account with new publication
The New England Journal of Medicine is launching NEJM AI, an online-only publication focused on artificial intelligence in clinical medicine.
One of the most prestigious names in medical publishing is going all in on artificial intelligence.
The New England Journal of Medicine on Monday will launch NEJM AI, a monthly, online-only publication that will focus on evaluating applications of artificial intelligence in clinical medicine. The journal will also publish review articles, policy perspectives, and educational materials for physicians and computer scientists.
The expansion of its coverage coincides with a surge of investment, and hype, surrounding the rapid advancement of AI — much of it focused on generative capabilities first demonstrated by ChatGPT. Many recent articles published in top-tier journals have envisioned a future state where AI transforms vast swaths of medical practice.
